November update...

We've been so busy with everything that we've failed to keep the blog up to date.

The deck is finished. It's going to be awesome. The gate is going to be great for keeping the dogs OFF the deck.

The walls have been primed and the trim is going up now along with the doors. We're waiting for the painter to finish his work before they bring the hardwoods in to acclimate to our house. We're working towards the final push, but we're still about a month out.

Dennis claims we'll be in by the end of the month, but we're doubtful.

More Drywall, but not much else...

Oops, not true. Joel has got some major holes dug for the deck piers. He was also kind enough to chop down a terribly overgrown flowering bush thing just off the existing patio as well as the nasty beat up privacy screen to the North of the patio. Thanks, Joel!

And Jason and his guy got a ton more drywall hung today. See photos:

The Drywall's A-Goin-Up!!!!

Well, we didn't take any photos today, but Jason got ALOT of the drywall up today. Stay tuned for photos of the interior...

Really Quick...

Well, yet another truck drove all over our yard today...what difference will a few more rutts make?!

These new rutts are the product of massive amounts of drywall being delivered.

Also, we met with Joel tonight regarding the back porch and have paid him his first installment of cash so he can get a move on. We are really excited about the porch and can't wait to entertain out there!

So, we'll post some photos later...for now it's bedtime. We've been working on our inventory for the past couple of hours. We found a track on the voice recorder thing that we thought we had deleted and have rocked out the breezeway, bathroom and dining room pantry!!!! Hooray!

Almost Finished!!!

Well, the siding that is. :)

We drove by this morning, and were pretty happy with what we saw. The boys are almost finished with the exterior work. There's a bit of siding that needs some attention on the front of the house, and we are waiting for the small windows in the master bedroom to be replaced with more appropriate windows. Once those come in, they'll be able to finish the siding on the South side of the house. Aside from that, there are some small details that need to be addressed...plinths on the columns, a lentil over the door, etc. Otherwise, things are moving along.

By Tuesday we expect Brown to begin drywalling. He expects to be finished in 2 weeks. While he's rockin' out the walls and ceilings, Dennis should be leveling out the subfloor and prepping it for the hardwood.

Speaking of the old GC, we just got his second installment of money, so that should make him happy for a bit.

A Quick Update...

Well, we've been really bad about keeping our blog updated. So, quickly, here's an update of what's going on:

Almost all of the siding has been put up.
Most of the plumbimg and electric has been pulled.
The insulation seems to be about finished.
The front porch has been demoed and repoured.
We have selected the hardwood floors and they should arrive shortly.

We are hoping to see Brown in there next week or so to begin drywalling.

Well, let's see...

We have a roof over the entire house.
We have new windows installed.
We have some new floor boards.
We have a pocket door into our bedroom.
We have electrical outlets and switches mounted.
We have more new plumbing.
We have new stairs going into the basement.
We have a new wall bewteen the stairs and dining room.

What else...

We should have siding up soon.
We have selected our hardwood floor finish.

Well, as photos become available, we'll get them posted.

Tuesday! Tuesday!

So, we'll post a few pictures later, but we wanted to at least verbally update everyone as to what's going on with the Hixey House...

Over the weekend a father/sons crew came out and roofed the main living space. While they were there working, Dennis was out prepping the end trusses so that on Monday, he'd be able to attach the outriggers on the garage. That has been finished now, and he has also framed out the triangular section of wall between the garage and breezeway. The guys will finish framing the "hip" of the breezeway roof (where it meets the roof over the garage) and they should sheath those two roofs so that the roofers can finish their job this weekend. This is all supposition, but it sounds like a good timeframe...

We expect to have a new stair (leading into the basement) this week as well as new sub-floor boards where needed. They are also starting to pull wires for electrical. We met Dennis at the house last night and discussed the electrical "plan". The windows are on order and should arrive soon and the french doors are in and should be installed this week.

The bids for the deck are in, and are higher than we probably feel comfortable spending, but that's a discussion that has yet to really take place. We have decisions to make on that front, as that scope of work is not included in our replacement cost, and we'll be out of pocket.
